Poor reviews of this book left me unprepared for the addictive page turner this turned out to be. Katzu has a flair for storytelling as she reveals stories within stories to tell her tale of immortality and dark magic. she is not afraid to show a character's flaws or to paint an unpleasant scene. Brutal and quite graphic at times but this is necessary for the story. Brilliantly done and a cracking tale.
